Council will be adopting a Local Area Plan which addresses growth by way of increased housing density  in the McTavish/East Saanich/Canora Road area, having been informed by a thorough public consultation process in which residents have confidence.   Being respectful, I will have enjoyed a first year in office, with plenty of healthy debate, free of acrimony and friction.

Creating a vision and planning for future use of the former Sandown racetrack as productive agricultural land will be well underway.   Led by innovative community members committed to healthy locally produced food and preservation of farmland, Sandown will be the site of a permanent Farmers Market, and a source of pride for North Saanich residents.

The District will be supporting and encouraging Block Parties in residential neighborhoods, like many municipalities, recognizing that relationships are the foundation of a strong community.   Under the auspices of a new Recreation and Culture Commission, community volunteers supported by online resources will lead these initiatives.

Draft of an Affordable Housing Policy is being written;
A Council approved Review of portions of the Official Community Plan (OCP) is underway;
That property tax can be maintained at reasonable levels, with minimal increase;
That there is momentum on the Sandown development agreement for the commercial property;

2015 is the Jubilee celebration for North Saanich.  As a member of the Planning Committee, I would like to look back and say, we have had a wonderful, exciting Jubilee year with many memorable events for all residents; That I will have been able to mentor and assist new Council members with our work, so that Council can be more effective, and these members will have had an easier transition to Councillor.

What would you like to have accomplished by June 1, 2017
I would like to see the  Final Report of the review of portions of the OCP presented to Council in January, 2017, and NS working with a new OCP by June 1, 2017;
That an Affordable Housing Policy is in place;
That area planning for the approved development areas is finished;
That we have opened new trails, at least one new park, and improved our beach accesses;
That Council maintains our continuous, open communication with all residents.

Just before the mandate ends, I would like to see that: we have kept property tax as low as we possibly could through thoughtful budgeting and careful financial management;
we have worked to maintain our rural, ALR, agricultural, marine, and environmental vision in the new OCP;
we have provided a diversity of new housing, in a balanced way, adhering to the principles of the new, revised OCP;
we have collected the scientific data necessary to be able to plan to protect our shoreline and residents’ waterfront properties in the face of  climate change;
we have had a Council which has worked collaboratively, with  Staff and residents, building consensus, while respecting different viewpoints. And, which has made decisions for a better future for all residents.
