Saanich-Gulf Island All Candidates Debate
Saanich-Gulf Islands All Candidates Debate on September 19th in Brentwood Bay.
Alicia Cormier (NDP), Tim Kane (Liberal), and incumbent Elizabeth May (Green) outline their party’s platform and take questions from the audience.
Special thanks to Ratepayers and Residents of Central Saanich for hosting the debate and Ed Johnson for recording it.
Thank you very much to RRoCS for hosting this all-candidates’ meeting. I also thank all the candidates for participating and for standing up with the courage of your convictions. I know where my vote will go, but I thank you all for a very interesting and informative conversation – so much better than the stupid debates.
The absent Conservative Party of Canada candidate raises a red flag in my mind. Instead of appearing with his fellow candidates and make the sincere effort to attract my vote, he instead chose to withhold his attendance, thereby depriving everyone who attended of the chance to meet him personally and perhaps have a question or two answered.
Sadly, this has been typical of CPoC candidates across the country. When asked, each one appears to answer off the same page, which in effect advises them to reply “I feel my time would be better served on the doorsteps”. But I have polled my family and my friends across three lower Island ridings- to date, none has had a CPoC candidate on their doorstep.
It’s a little hard to attract new votes (and thus win your seat) unless you get out and meet those you want to vote for you.
Or has the Party chosen to surrender the Lower Island, instead?
