Cheers to Green Drinks on the Peninsula!
Environmentally minded people are invited to join Green Drinks – Saanich Peninsula, a new monthly networking opportunity where people meet, mingle and make new acquaintances at an informal event, held on the last Tuesday of every month.
Zanzibar Café is hosting the first three events. “We are really interested in supporting this kind of meet up! Hopefully the local community will help keep this event going for the long term,” says Toni Brassard, co-owner of Zanzibar Cafe.
Green Drinks started in 1989, at a pub called the Slug and Lettuce in North London. Edwin Datschefski was sitting with his green design colleagues Yorick Benjamin and Paul Scott when he noticed an enviro-minded acquaintance at a nearby table. As it turned out, the friend was sitting with a few of his own eco-conscious mates, so they pulled some tables together…and so a movement was born.
The Green Drinks concept, where any one is welcome to share ideas and conversation, has gone global. A list of countries and the latest city count can be found at www.greendrinks.org.
“There are lots of benefits to green drinks; they are hard to quantify – but when you have seen people come and make new contacts, learn from one another and work together on new ideas and interesting projects, it is a good feeling.” says organizer Alicia Cormier.
Green Drinks is scheduled for September 24th, October 29th and November 26th from 5:30-7:30 pm at Zanzibar Cafe, 1164 Stellys X Rd., Brentwood Bay. Cost to attend is $10 and includes appetizers. For details or to RSVP, contact Alicia Cormier at 250-893-5070.
How nice to see a publication which reflects the views of the community. We wish you continued good fortune.
