QELENSEN fundraising gala dinner and entertainment – Saturday October 27, 2012

Tsawout First Nation is planning an elegant dinner evening with entertainment as a fundraiser to help rebuild the longhouse. The Tsawout longhouse, which is the cultural and spiritual heartbeat of the community, received much publicity when it was destroyed in a tragic fire three years ago.

The QELENSEN Gala Dinner will take place on Saturday October 27 from 5pm to 10 pm at the Tsawout First Nation Gathering of Strength facility on 7728 Tetayut Road on the Tsawout Reserve in Saanichton  Everyone is welcome.

This event will include a four course meal with lively musical and cultural entertainment.

A magnificent seafood feast will be served to our guests. This will include a delicious array of halibut, prawns, salmon, oysters and clams with mixed winter vegetables, roasted potatoes and fresh local greens followed by tempting desserts.

We are delighted to announce that film and television star Adam Beach (CBC’s Artic Air and Smoke Signals) will be the feature speaker. Award-winning Cree singer/songwriter Art Napoleon will perform unique songs from his latest CD, and illusionist Eric Bedard, a Tony Award winning performer, will be sure to amaze the audience. The Snuneymuxw First Nation Dancers and the Cowichan Tzinquaw Dancers will bring vibrant cultural performances to this memorable event.

“This is an important event for the Tsawout community. We really feel the loss of the longhouse because it is the symbolic base of our culture,” said event organizer Farrah Sylvester. “We hope that people will support us at this gala feast event.”

As explained by Eydie Pelkey, Chair of the SNEPENEKS Cultural Society, “The spirituality of the longhouse is strong in Coast Salish culture.  It includes healing and spiritual questing.”

We hope that many people including business operators, politicians, church groups and community friends will support our cause. There is an opportunity to buy a group table of 8 for $1,000. Per person ticket sales are $150. All ticket sales offer tax receipts on 75% of the ticket price since the Tsawout SNEPENEKS Cultural Society holds charitable status.

Please contact Farrah Sylvester at 778-426-3401 or email [email protected] to reserve a table.
